Protection of research information and the prevention of scientific misconduct
Registration deadline: Wednesday, February 1
The purpose of this course is to inform course participants about the applicable principles for protecting research information and the applicable principles for avoiding misconduct in research. The course is divided into three two-hour sessions. Course dates: February 6, 20 and 27. This course is in Swedish.

Scholarships and grants

Erasmus+ travel grant funding within Europe for staff at the University of Gothenburg
Deadlines: February 15 and April 15, 2017
The International Centre at University of Gothenburg has announced a call for applications for Erasmus+ travel grant. An Erasmus+ travel grant supports the evaluation, development or initiation of a prospective or existing collaboration within the Erasmus+ programme (within Europe). Deadline for travels between January 15 - March 30: February 15. Deadline for travels between March 15 - September 30: April 15. More information and application details here. 

Applications for the following are accepted on a rolling basis: Erasmus+ teaching assignment/teacher exchange and Erasmus+ staff training.

Vetenskapsrådet Conference Grant
Application deadline: Tuesday, February 21, 2017
The aim of this grant is to promote international cooperation and sharing of experiences amongst researchers. The conference grant offers active researchers in Sweden the possibility to organize conferences with internationally recognized key speakers. More information here.

Vetenskapsrådet Grant: International postdoc in artistic research
Application deadline: Tuesday, February 21, 2017 
The purpose of the grant is to provide newly qualified postdoctoral researchers from Swedish universities the opportunity to expand their network and skills through international employment. You have to be an individual researcher to apply and must have a doctorate from a Swedish university or from the European University Institute (EUI). More information here.

The Adlerbert Foreign Student Hospitality Fund
Application deadline: Wednesday, February 22, 2017
The scholarship board of University of Gothenburg have opened applications to the Adlerbert Foreign Student Hospitality Foundation for 2017. Entitled to apply are foreign visiting students within undergraduate programmes or postgraduate studies at the University of Gothenburg who intend to return to their native countries after completed studies. The extent of the studies should be at least three months. Application details here.

Bo Samuelsson PhD Exchange Programme at UC Berkeley 2017/18

Vetenskapsrådet NOS-HS workshop grants

Vetenskapsrådet Project Research Grant in Artistic Research
Call opens: Wednesday, February 15, 2017 / Call closes: Tuesday, March 21, 2017 
The Research project Grant is open to you as an individual artist or researcher in artistic research. You are the project leader and supervisor of the project and your active participation in the project must at least equal 20 percent of a full-time employment. More information will be available here.

Call for contributions: PARSE Conference 2017 on EXCLUSION
Submission deadline: Friday, February 10, 2017
The second biennial PARSE conference at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, University of Gothenburg, Sweden takes as its point of departure the question of EXCLUSION. The conference welcomes individual and collective proposals on the theme of exclusion from all disciplines. Contribution formats can include panels, performances, screenings, workshops, rhetorical statements, design proposals, sonic interventions, hearings, plans, public actions, etc. More information and submission guidelines here.

Show Time: Bodies, Spectacle and Unpopular Culture

This workshop for PhD students with Jack Halberstam is part of the symposium "Show Time: Bodies, Spectacle and Unpopular Culture". Can we still use a term like the “popular” in an era when the popular is not necessarily that which appeals to a majority or even a large faction? Papers Mnemonics 2017: The Social Life of Memory

Call for Contributions: Theatre, Dance and Performance Training, focusing on Dartington College of Arts
Deadline for abstracts: Thursday, April 20, 2017
Over the near 5 decades of its history, Dartington College of Arts, established an international reputation for innovation in performance making, spawning new directions in dance, theatre, devising, music and visual performance that continue to influence current artists and scholars. Echoing Dartington’s fluid approach to training, this issue welcomes a variety of ways of responding to the call and actively encourages co-authoring, embedding of images, diagrams, drawings within critical articles. More information and submission guidelines here.


New dissertation

How do you become a successful beggar in Sweden?
This dissertation is an inquiry into the images of begging and giving 2011 to 2016 by Cecilia Parsberg in Fine Arts, Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, Umeå University. It consists of nine text chapters and six works of art and is published online at beggingandgiving.se in Swedish and English. Digital versions are also available at http://umu.diva-portal.org/ and http://portal.research.lu.se/portal/.

University of Gothenburg welcomes the director generals of the national research councils Vetenskaprådet (Swedish Research Council), Formas and Vinnova- the Innovations Agency . The purpose of these seminars is to introduce and discuss new funding opportunities followed by the new government policy bill: "Collaborating for knowledge – for society’s challenges and strengthened competitiveness" (Download in swedish).

Sites of transition: The heritage of migratory spatial practices within urban settings
At this seminar, Laia Colomer will introduce a vision of globalization and heritage that moves the focus from fixed essentialist categories to the flows and fluxes of people’s cultures, identities, and attachments. Colomer is a postdoctoral researcher and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at Linnaeus University, Department of Cultural Sciences. More information here.

Franco Berardi on And. Phenomenology of the End
Franco Berardi, aka 'Bifo', founder of the famous 'Radio Alice' in Bologna and an important figure of the Italian Autonomia Movement, will be speaking at Valand Academy about his new book 'And. Phenomenology of the End (2015)'. He currently teaches Social History of the Media at the Accademia di Brera, Milan. More information here.
