Apply for doctoral position at Academy of Music and Drama

Academy of Music and Drama at University of Gothenburg announces two new doctoral positions, one in Performance Practices (scenisk gestaltning) and one in musical performance and interpretation (musikalisk gestaltning). 

Both positions start 1st September, and the application deadline is 18th March. The announcements will soon be published at the recruitment portal at the University of Gothenburg HERE

Performance Practices
The doctoral subject Performance Practices (scenisk gestaltning) explores issues with relevance to the field of performing art, artistic research, and society as a whole. Reflection on one’s own practice is an important tool for knowledge development and renewal within the field. Doctoral (third-cycle) education within this subject comprises dramatic performance practices within a variety of disciplines and genres. This announcement is aimed specifically at physical or movement-based practitioners in the theatre field with an interest in new narrative and dramaturgical methods.

Musical Performance and Interpretation
The third-cycle subject area of musical performance and interpretation (musikalisk gestaltning) covers the entire field of music, regardless of genre or form of expression. The doctoral education is within one of the specialisations of interpretation, composition, improvisation or theory. The education provides training in relevant academic and artistic methods and theories. It is characterised by a conscious pursuit of interaction between artistic and academic working models.

Announcement for doctoral position in Research on Arts Education

The research school at the Centre for Education Science and Teacher Research, CUL, in partnership with the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Education and the IT Faculty at the University of Gothenburg, hereby opens up for admission to third cycle studies and invites applications for doctoral studentships:

•Six doctoral studentships are offered; CUL covers costs of both education and salary.

•Six jointly funded doctoral positions are offered; CUL covers education costs and the external partner covers salary costs.

•The research school is also accepting applications for positions with full external funding.Candidates with this type of funding may apply for both licentiate and doctoral studies.

Faculty Seminars - Writing Research Applications

Sharpen your ability to write applications for research funding. Get help if you're struggling and having a difficult time with an application right now, and share in other people's experiences and competence if you are intending to write one in the future.

We would like to welcome you to the first of two seminars on applying for research funding - arranged by our Faculty in February.

Here we will be discussing different applications - both for funding from the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) for artistic research, and for other research funding.

You can also get support regarding your application if you are working on one right now. If you wish to obtain feedback on an application, please send your text to Johan Öberg, Faculty Research Advisor, at the email address below, by the 5th of February at the latest. We will arrange for a discussant, and each application will be allocated approximately one hour.

The second seminar on research applications will take place on Tuesday the 20th of February from 1pm to 5pm in the Assembly Hall at Valand Academy (Valands Aula). You may attend both or just one of the seminars - as you wish.

SANORD 11th Annual International Conference i Jyväskylä, Finland 15-17 August 2018

Call for proposals

The University of Gothenburg is a member of the International network SANORD. The aim of the network is to support and promote cooperation betweek Nordic universities and universities in Southern Africa (according to the SADC-definition: http://www.sadc.int/member-states/) More information about SANORD is available at http://sanord.uwc.ac.za/

SANORD organizes an annual conference. This year’s conference will be held August 15-17 2018 in Jyväskylä, Finland. The theme for this year’s conference is "Academic Citizenship: recognition, resilience or resistance” and covers the following sub-themes:

  • South-North partnerships for sustainable development
  • Promoting human development, health and well-being
  • Academic partnerships and decolonization of knowledge
  • Education for social justice, equity and equality
  • Innovations and digital solutions for education and societies
  • Teaching and teacher education
  • Arts and culture in human development and education
  • Partnerships between educational institutions and communities

Call for Applications: Artistic Research as Compositional or Performance Practice

For performers, composers and sound-artists who

•    wish to create a new composition, performance, improvisation or artwork which is imbued by an interest in artistic research,
•    are interested in enriching their artistic practice through rigorous self-reflection, 
•    search for ways to indulge deeply into a specific topic based on methods of artistic research, 
•    wish to develop new models of art through artistic research.

BRIK- Broadened Participation within Artistic Education

Welcome to the BRIK conference, on Broadened Participation within Artistic Education, in Gothenburg February 8–9.

On behalf of the BRIK network, the University of Gothenburg invites you to a two day´s conference about Broadened participation.  Take part of new research and current issues, learn from other´s  experiences and contribute to future work.

The conference is open to all interested in broadened participation in artistic education. It will be partly in Swedish, partly in English.

Time: February 8-9, lunch to lunch

Place: Academy of Design and Arts, HDK, Kristinelundsgatan 6-8, Gothenburg
